We discussed using henna as a ayurvedic treatment for healthy hair in a previous post. We have seen the benefits of henna as a natural herbal powder which is not only used for coloring hair, but also helps to prevent itchy scalp among other benefits.
Today, we’re going to talk about another natural beauty remedy: Chébé.
Chébé (Shébé/Chéwé) is an ancient and natural hair care tradition originating from Chad, more specifically from Basara Arab women known to have extremely long naturally coarse hair (hair goals!).
Chébé is a blend of indigenous aromatic spices that is applied to the entire length of the hair shaft helping in increasing length retention and improving the hair’s health. It is made of the following ingredients:
- Shébé seeds (Croton zambesicus/Croton du Zambèze)
- “Mahllaba soubiane” seeds
- “Missic” stone to scent
- “Samour” resin
- Scented oil (your choice)
- Hair Grease or pomade (your choice)
More info on how Chébé is made and applied to the hair found here:
If anyone has tried Chébé before, do not hesitate to share your opinion?
