What if I told you that some of your favourite products contain harmful ingredients? What if I told you that these same ingredients can be found in your kids’ products? Now what if I told you that some of these chemicals are not even listed on your products (reading ingredient lists on products is not enough ☹).
Some cosmetics include ingredients that have been linked with diseases such as early puberty, obesity, increased breast cancer risk… This includes relaxers (although we don’t do that here), conditioners, shampoos, etc.
Any products you’re buying should have an ingredient list online, if not leave it alone! Don’t rely on advertising solely, because my friend, you’ll be very disappointed.
The EWG (Environmental Working Group) is a free online resource which allows you to research safe products. The organisation has reviewed over 1,000 beauty products marketed to black women and found that only 25% of those products scored low in potentially hazardous ingredients….25%!! This is compared to about 40% products sold to the general public. Doesn’t that make you wonder how can these ingredients be on the market? What level of testing is done before cosmetics are approved to be sold? We’re being killed or getting sick because of the colour of our skin and money/greed (but this is not news).
We spend so much on cosmetics, we need to be more knowledgeable on what we put on and in our bodies.
